Default Baby Aspirin?

A doctor just told my husband anyone over 50 should take a baby aspirin everyday. I have been reading about that on web md and some articles say if you are not at risk for heart attack or stroke it might not be a good thing because it might cause bleeding, anyone here have any thoughts?

Both my parents (in their 60's) take baby aspirin and I do as well (I'm in my 30's). We've never had heart problems but our doctors recommended it as a preventative measure. It only takes a small amount of aspirin to be beneficial and I doubt the dosage in baby aspirin would cause bleeding.

The reason they say to take a baby aspirin is because that is a low dose of aspirin and that is to try to not cause bleeding problems. My husband and I are in our 50's and we take it everyday. You do not have to be prone or at high risk to have a heart attack or stroke to have one.

Well, I am an MD and I have an opinion. Aspirin can be good for overall health when taken in small amounts. If you have a known cardio disorder you should not take this on a regular basis. While it is not a blood thinner, it can cause less O2 pockets in the blood, starting an entire different problem in some cases. Many people take aspirin daily.

So is 81 mg a day ok, or should it be less?

I dont want to give you bad advise because I do not know your medical history, age, body size and general reaction to medicine.

I would advise you to ask your doc and see what they advise for you. In other words, I dont want you to go to your doc and say, I can take 80mg because some guy that I talk to on the internet that claims to be a doctor told me that it would be ok.

I dont want to advise you to take anything that YOUR doc wants or doesnt want you to do.

Not that that is the "professional I dont want to get sued quote or anything"....

I would just say that 81mg is not a really large dose but over time could affect your general health if taken aginst sound medical advise.

I thought people WITH cardiac problems or risk of SHOULD take aspirin and that the baby aspirin was somewhat preventive of further, bigger problems. Whyat other problem are you saying daily use of baby aspirin could cause? And why not take it if you have cardio problems??
