Cool Yawn...Sleep Apnea - Anyone?

Hi Everyone - questions for you - while IU try and stay awake here - at my desk at 2 PM
HAve any of you suffered or been diagnosed with sleep apnea -
It's horrible and I never feel like I have any sleep and then the everyday stresses of life - wipe me out - I am now starting to feel like a ZOMBIE:
I would like to find out how you were taken care of and if it worked? did you do a sleep study? how did you get your energy back? how do you make sure you get the right amount of sleep?

I go to bed and sleep for almost 9-10 hours everynight and on the weekends - I catnap for an hour each day - I am 55 yr old?
thanks for any help or advice.

Well, my husband has it, but he doesn't believe me, that and bruxism-grinding his teeth to the point that they screeeech, but he will do nothing about it. What you can do is tell your doctor, they will do a 'test' on you-where you go in to a room and they monitor you while you sleep, and if you need it, they can give you this contraption [for lack of a better word] to wear while you sleep. My neighbor had this done, and she has the mask thing, but I think it's pretty hard to get used to, but you could try that.

What does this contraption do? and does she get enough sleep now - and soundly? Is her life better - With sleep apnea - you feel like you never sleep - awake 24/7
thanks

My husband and I both have sleep apnea. He wears a cpap and I had the UPPP surgery done. He will NOT go a single night without his mask cause he regrets even taking short naps without it. My doctor told me I had a 70% chance of successful surgery. Told him to go ahead. It was successful. Not everyone is. I was MISERABLE for 2 weeks after and lost 13 lbs (which I did gain back) but I don't have to use a mask. I had my surgery in 2002 and have been considered cured since then. I am severely claustrophobic.

You need to get your sleep apnea treated.

What Is Sleep Apnea?

Quote:
Untreated sleep apnea can increase the chance of having high blood pressure and even a heart attack or stroke. Untreated sleep apnea can also increase the risk of diabetes and the risk for work-related accidents and driving accidents.
