I consume alot of fiber in any given day mainly from Oatmeal breakfasts, oatmeal snack bars thruout the day, and whole wheat bread, etc.... Are there any ramifications to having a very high fiber diet ? Thanks.

You're driving to work.
You're stuck in bumper to bumper traffic and are completely stopped on the freeway.
Next exit is 1.5 miles ahead. You'll get there in about 15 minutes.

You've had too much fiber.

Now what do you do?

I can see that if you ate a lot of high fiber foods such as your oatmeal things, you might not take in enough fresh fruits and vegetables. Do you eat leafy vegetables, carrots, fresh tomatoes? A balanced diet that includes those things that give you minerals and vitamins is also needed.

If I eat too much fiber, I get the trots. No thank you!!

It doesn't sound to me like you are eating that much fiber. Eat more leafy greens, apples with the skin on, potatoes with the skin on, etc. At least you are drinking the water to help the fiber transition out easier.

While fiber can help reduce the risk of heart disease, colon cancer, diabetes, and diverticulitis, too much fiber can also have some negative affects.

But nothing major! Stuff like bloating and gassiness, diarrhea, (general abdominal discomfort).

20 to 40 grams of fiber a day is good! More than that, I'm not getting too close.
