The tops it shoud be is 100 so it doesn't sound too far out of wack. Any opinions? Will cutting down on sugar bring it down?

It could be an early sign of diabetes, if it was taken while fasting.

Most docs would also want to check the blood sugar 2 hours after a meal or do a formal glucose tolerance test, in which you have a fasting level drawn, then drink a standardized sugar drink, then have another blood sample drawn two hours after the drink. You should sit quietly during the test. If the lab says you can leave and come back, it's wrong.

However, if the 2 hour test is abnormal, the first line of attack is decreasing sugar in the diet and exercise. If you are overweight, this should be the wake up call to lose the excess pounds.

It would not hurt to monitor your blood sugar at home. Monitors are inexpensive (though the test strips are not.) If you could borrow a monitor for a few weeks, you could check your own fasting levels and after meals, write them down, and let your doctor know the results.

If you act now, you could prevent or delay needing medication for type 2 diabetes.
