I wonder if this would be a good alternative to surgery. I've never done or seen one so I couldn't say. Of course urologists would probably prefer an open reconstruction.

CONCLUSION.[/b] Placement of a covered retrievable stent for a minimum of 4 months is effective in inducing long-term resolution of refractory urethral strictures. Stent migration remains the largest obstacle in achieving adequate duration of stent placement.

I recently underwent urethral stricture surgery; albeit with no anesthesia, but that’s another issue. Anyway, post surgery the doctor told me to dilate the urethra 3 times a day using a hospital supplied foley. On the first after having the catheter removed, I used the rubber foley and it split open the healed stricture; painful and bloody.
I immediately understood I needed to keep the urethra open to prevent any scar tissue forming and closing up again. So, I lubed up a plastic chop stick, after having cleaned it throughly with sanitizer first and used that the following morning. It worked and dilated my urethra. Obviously, I didn’t want to keep using it and was talking to a friend of mine who told me that and his lover, do something called ‘sounding.’ It is something that many people practice as a form of sexual pleasure. It involves using a stainless steel rod, inserted into the urethra. Apparently, one then uses ever increasing diameters to continue stretching the urethra.
A light went off! I spoke about it with my wife and called my doctor who informed me that actually it is a legitimate surgical instrument used for, now wait for it, dilating the urethra. So I found a gay clothing store that sells S&M studded type of wear and yes, they sold me a stainless steel surgical urethral expander that is dual diameter: 13 and 15 mm (I’m assuming.)
In any event, I’ve been using it now for 2 weeks, the scar tissue has not grown back, my urethra is completely open and, in fact, my flow is so strong that I can completely empty my bladder with no residual issues. I hope this help you as much as it has helped me. If you want, I can email you a picture of the instrument if that helps you.
My husband has had surgery 3 times on a urethral stricture (one each year for 3 years) and he is having trouble again. Has anyone ever had this problem? If so, how are you treating the problem. What he has had done is not working.

[mod]need at least 10 other posts to make specific recommendations [/mod]. Had my surgery in At end of June 2013. Buccal mucosa type. After 24 years of voiding issues and 4 or 5 stricture surgery or dilations, this surgery has changed my quality of life. I was very hesitant and nervous prior due to the past failures of the other procedures, which worked well for a few months each time. Do not be scared and do not hesitate. Put your time and worry into finding a quality surgeon and your life will be changed

I have had and suffered thru urethral stricture for 10 years. I only figured it out about 3 years ago and that was a relief in itself. My uroligist advised I get a urethrotomy. After I watched the procedure on youtube and saw posts of dozens who had it done I decided to try and find another way. For me the biggest issue was burning at urination. For the sake of time Ill make this brief and get right to the point these are 2 things that have provided me SO much relief!!!!

I am suffering from Urethral Stricture for last 6 years. Dilation has been twice on me; firstly in 2010 and then in 2012. Last year in March April, i again had problems and was suggested surgery/Operation which i subsequently decided not to go for after taking second opinion. I got tensed, anxious and restless for quite some time. Then, somebody suggested Ayurvedic Treatment for the same. And conditions have been improving since then. My flow has improved and i am feeling much better now. Lately, i got to know about the concept of Chakras. There are 7 Energy centers around our bodies. When i deeply studied it, the problems which i face were due to energy blockages in first and second chakras (Root Chakra and Swathisthana).
I then have started meditating aligning and concentrating on first and second chakras. This has hugely benefited me and i had a thought that i should share it for everyone's benefit. You can visit various sites on the internet so that you can understand the concept better and how to take its benefit.
I had the urethrotomy twice. It worked both times for a while but the tissue grew again each time. The first operation gave me relief for about 2 years but had an emergency situation when flow stopped completely. For a few yers then I self catheterized daily to keep the urethra open. After enough of this I had another urethrotomy but within 5 months my flow had halved and I needed to start dilating at the hospital every month. Finally now I will have the urethra reconstruction.
The Urology Surgeon who performed my repair is Dr. Allen Morey, Currently in practice in Dallas, Texas, USA, at the Southwestern Medical School. He is now Chairman of the department of urology.
Hi,
I have seen your post and would like to know how is your health in terms of urethral stricture? Does the surgery resolved your problem? Please advise as I am suffering from the stricture and planning to have surgery soon.
Thank you,
Victor
