Once you use it, you'll never want any other product.
But it's expensive.
Also, stay hydrated .... lots and lots of water.
And get plenty of good fat in your diet .. flax oil, fish oil, evening primrose oil, etc., etc..
I have never heard of this lip balm, but I will definitely give it a try. I read other reviews as well, and everyone, like you, say it's fabulous.

Hi- I have this EXACT SAME PROBLEM !! And am currently researching online about it to try and figure this thing out, it is very painful and only happens once every couple months. I have had this exact thing you are describing, mainly on only the top part of my top lip in a thick chapped dark red line and flaking underneath... it lasts a few days dries up and goes back to normal. I am 27 and this only started happening within the past 2 years this frequently. I thought perhaps it was when i drank to much, i was dehydrated, i had a vitamin defficiency, it had to do with my period (sometimes it happens right when i start it, but not every time)... I just don't know, it is NOT consistent, and i have been taking the recommended vitamins for chapped lips for a year, and fatty oils and a drink a lot of water !!... I am at a loss, my doctor said just use chapstick or its vitamin B diffeciency, but i told her, well i take really good whole food B vitamins for a year and SHE HAD NOTHING TO TELL ME !!!.... im mystified- if anyone has any other ideas i would love to hear them. and i sympathize with you Lastra !!! thank you - m

Mine happened as an allergic reaction to Gold Bond body lotion--even though I never put that stuff anywhere near my lips. Once I stopped using that lotion, my chapped lips went away. Symptoms showed up again when I tried using Aveeno lotion.

Try some aloe vera.

Paw paw ointment is great for things like this, I used it on my cat's sore nose and it cleared it straight up...I don't know if you can get it where you are though.

Lucas Papaw Ointment - Natural remedies

I'd be veryyyy careful what you put on it, a lot of things will make it worse, especially if you keep it too damp. It could also be a vitamin B deficiency or even anaemia, do you eat enough red meat?

I am 65 and just acquired this problem also. Drink lots of coffee, but have for years. Good diet, otherwise healthy. Dermatologist prescribed desonide ointment .05%, but doesn't seem to help. Vaseline and Vaniply Ointment don't seem to help either, except to temporarily loosen up the "chapped, scaly" condition.

I'm wondering if a respiratory problem is the cause, since one could imagine breathing from the nose hits the upper lip and not the lower. Otherwise, why the upper lip and not the lower?

I'll try some of the remedies recommended here but I still suspect some strange cause we haven't yet discovered.

I get that too, always followed by a cold sore. I wonder if it's some type of virus that also makes the lips chapped.

I wonder if its a fungus of some sort? Try using honey on it (real honey from a farm or the health food store not the kaka from the grocery store)

Same here. My top lip is red and chapped but nothing seems to help it.
I'm almost sure its from some underlying deficiency, but what?
NP told me never to use vaseline. She told me to buy Aquar Phor as it helps everything.
It hasn't healed my lip yet.
Thank you.
