One more thing which people seem to not pay attention to: Aspirin and ibuprofen "thin" your blood by way of keeping your platelets from aggregating. If you have a history of bleeds like ulcers, it is not a good idea to take them...

I had the same question. Orthopedic surgeons are doing knee and hip replacements younger these days than they used to. Why live with pain for however many years you have left to go?

Because of congenital hip dysplasia, I had a hip replacement at 43. It had gotten so painful that simple things had become far too painful (and I was newly remarried - some of those things that were painful were things I reallllly didn't want to do without .) After trying just about every conservative measure, my doctor said it was time for a replacement. Because I was younger, the recovery was (probably) easier. Yes, I may have to have a revision in later years, but had I waited until 60, I would have had another 17 years in pain.

Just something to think about.
