YAY! MY favorite subject!! JK
Since you brought it up, Barb, I would like to mention that I have found that my new way of eating (diet) has made my body produce much healthier BMs.. I have been on an all-natural, no preservatives, nothing artificial, and eating LOTS of vegetables, whole grains, beans, nuts, fruit, and chicken breast..

I used to be a rabbit turd producer and sometimes go over a week without having a BM!! MY mantra is "optimum diet--optimum poop"

Lucia: How do you find out what has preservatives in it? Read every box label or what? Do you have to shop exclusively in the organic section of the grocery store? I cannot afford that. What do you do if you are away from home and have a craving for fast food?? I admire your ability to do this diet, but I think it would be really difficult for me. I am going to try the prune/orange stuff someone mentioned previously and see how that "goes."

Can't answer for everyone but I read labels. I need to avoid as many carbs as possible (diabetic and post gastric bypass) and it is amazing the high carb count in many processed foods that you wouldn't ordinarily think of as bing high carb. Stuff labeld "low fat" or "no sugar" are offenders.

I know, right? It totally stinks.

OP - have you talked to your doctor? If you're on a lot of meds, and you're having this problem, your doc needs to know and can probably help.

I suffer from irritable bowel and find that too much fiber can cripple me.
The best things I find to stop constipation are
1.DRINK,DRINK, DRINK
2.at least 20 minutes of reasonably strenous activity daily-especially if it involves using abdo muscles.

We cycled regularly over the Summer and the next day my BM would be the size of a small shark!
Same if I've put in a good session of yard work or been for a 3/4 mile walk.

House work like vacuuming/mopping etc is enough-just avoid being a couch potato!

Other thing to do is start massaging your stomach. I can usually pinpoint where it's clogged up-feels more uncomfortable when I press and sometimes if I have trapped gas I can actually move it along! You do need to massage quite firmly.

When your poop floats, it usually means you have plenty of fiber in your diet. Mine poop usually goes straight down and chips the bottom.

If your poop floats and it's light in color it usually means they are high in fat- can often signify your gall bladders not working well.

My latest concern is that I produce "marbles", either about a quarter size or smaller. Nothing else.
What does it mean? I take a bunch of meds and am wondering if this is a side effect of one of them. It just started happening lately. Does anyone know if this is a side effect of some condition? I already have a gastro doc, but its expensive to see him. Decided to increase my liquids and to add prunes and more fruit, but I am seeing no results.

Hope I haven't been too repulsive.
My wife of 58 years has had life time problem of this nature, painful, several years ago after colonoscopy, the doctor recomended Koncyil, bought at Walmart $14,takes it twice a day.A fiber supplement, none other did any good.It is not habit forming nor laxitive. The reason for price is others charge $18 plus.No complaints anymore.

Maybe that person is correct and your fiber supplementation just isn't working. Just because we take vitamins and supplements doesn't mean our body is doing anything with it and that it is working.
