In the past 2 years I have been heavily involved in the rh negative communities and have since experienced a lot of unawareness when it comes to blood type issues. First of, I was surprised to learn just how many people didn't know their type.

I am rh negative and have learned a little bit about the rh disease since.

So I am wondering: How many of you know your blood type, what is your type and how much do you guys know about rh compatibility issues when it comes to a rhesus negative mother carrying an rh positive fetus?

Best,

Mike Dammann

I have known I was A+ since my first pregnancy. I was tested and it all explained by my OB/GYN. That was in 1962, can't believe that is not being done today.

I've known my blood type since I was old enough to read. It was listed on my Dependent ID card. (Mother was in the Air Force.)

A+
I've only given blood 2 or 3 times. Might have done it my first time back in high school, and definitely did it once in college. I don't think they actually sent me a red cross card with my blood type on it till that time I gave in college, and I didn't know my type until then.
When I was pregnant, they did a test for what I assume is the rh thing you're talking about, and I didn't have a problem. But I don't know much else about it.

Actually O- is the universal donor. We can give to anyone. You can't give to a negative.

female, O neg.
yes, i know about the rh thing. rh incompatability is not good for the
child or mother, although i cannot say exactly why. maybe the blood in the
placenta will kill the baby from mixing blood +/-.

i have no kids, don't really care.

other than that i used to date a guy with your last name a really long time ago.

:P
