Last weekend, I drank WAY too much and ended up vomiting, I awoke Sunday morning with a nice hangover and a burst blood vessel in my left eye. It was initially underneath my eyelid, I peeled it back to reveal a dark purple blood bruise and a week later about 50% of my eye is now rose red.
Has anyone else ever experienced a burst blood vessel in their eye? And if so, how long did it take to completely clear?
Yes, I have had that happen to me. I went to the eye doctor and he said that it's normal. It can happen when one sneezes or coughs or in your case vomits.
He said most people don't even know that they had a blood vessel burst if it happened lower in the eye. But for you and me (twice), it happened higher in the eye and gravity is pulling the blood down. It's not pretty is it? LOL
It took about 2 to 3 weeks to completely go away (depending on how bad it is). Eventually it will turn to a yellowish color then be completely gone.
I did want to add one more thing. After all the red then yellow cleared up, I still had a blood spot at the edge of where the color of my eye began. That lasted awhile. I don't know if that is common. But some blood seemed to have settled there and it took longer for that blood spot to go away.
Oh yeah...
mt teenage daughter had a bad stomach virus and both her eyes looked like pieces of steak...took a week or two to fade and then her eyes were yellow for another week or two.
I also had the same during labor.
Yeah, on several occasions, and totally out of the blue. Never been an issue, except for the red eye for a while, and most times I know when it has happened as the eye feels sort of like gritty initially {hard to describe the feeling}. A mate of mine had this occur and his vision was effected and couldn't work for around 12 months. It depends on where the blood vessels bursts in the eye.

Yes. Both eyes. I was 19, and made the mistake of drinking hard liqour and beer all night. Threw up for about 2 hours. LOL! When I checked the mirror the next morning, I was freaking out. Same as you: dark red underneath bottom eyelids, slowly spread out. Turned to dark purple.
I had all kinds of burst blood vessels in my eyes after my eye surgery. In fact, I was crying blood for a few days. It took about two weeks before my eyes weren't completely bloodshot (I mean red-red, not just pinkish) and a month before they were "back to normal" (at least in terms of blood vessels). I had dissolvable stitches in my eyes, though, so I imagine burst blood vessels alone would take less time to heal.
