The injections often work but not always. If you had a previous injection that worked for several months it may be worth it to try a second one. Ultimately you may want to consider the surgery if a second injection doesn't fix the problem. The surgery is very quick, easy and effective. You should be seeing a hand specialist for this problem.

Unhappy It's Back

Well, my trigger thumb is back. It's been like 7 months since I got an injection and recently had to get another injection...and boy did it hurt like hell~!!! The Doc I saw the first time told me that I needed a joint replacement...NOT~! He also told that to a friend of mine at the gym, and she found another Doc. She has like RA and needs injections of some sort. I consulted a friend of mine whose a plastic surgeon and he told me that I don't need a joint replacement, and he gave me a shot last year, and recently too. If it isn't better I may have to have surgery to separate the ligament, I believe. It is swollen but does bend somewhat but not totally. I am not keen on having surgery since I'm not in pain unless it bend (tho now I have no pain since I had an injection).

The surgery is to release a structure called the A1 pulley, not a ligament.

If it comes back again you should really consider having it done.

I'm not having surgery. Before I got my injection, I was able to do things before with my thumb as well as now since I've got the injection.
