For the last few weeks I've been experiencing a thumping noise in my right ear (note, I'm 100% deaf with tinnitus in my left ear). The strange thing is the thumping is associated with pressing the mouse button. More strange is that it doesn't happen at the office, just a home. I switched my cordless mouse for a corded mouse (no difference). Used my husband's laptop with his mouse (no difference). Disconnecting Alexa didn't do anything. Turning the TV off doesn't work. Coincidentally I started CPAP treatment a few days before the thumping started to occur. I removed the new cordless cell phone from the office (still trying to determine if that might help). It's just maddening. I've been living with tinnitus since I was in Junior High (and I'm 62), i don't want to live with thumping (or ringing, etc.) in my good ear. If I can't confirm the cordless phone is the cause i'll be making a doctor appointment soon.

This is a long shot but has the OP or anyone else figured this out. I’m having the same exact problem and it’s driving me crazy.

I had my ears checked out by my PCM and a hearing test done. Both my ears and hearing checked out totally perfect.

The problem is I still experience this pressure/pulsing feeling in my left ear whenever I’m around birds chirping. It usually wakes me from my sleep in the morning times. My doc suggested a bite guard as it might have something to do with my jaw muscles so I’ve been using that for the past two nights but haven’t noticed any change yet.

My next step is to get a referral to an ENT

Default Did it resolve?

I never noticed it after that until now. It happens when I click my computer mouse, for instance, but it's also happening when I turn my head even slightly. Sometimes even just randomly. I do not have any pain, just a feeling of vulnerability in my left ear, if that makes any sense. I don't have any other symptoms of a cold. I am also on vacation in altitude, but I wasn't a couple weeks ago, so I'm not sure that has anything to do with it.

Something I know may be tied to it is that my jaw made a grinding sound a couple days ago when I opened it wide. However, that's gone away.

The sound is really annoying. Any tips for making this better for the short term, or ideas on what could be going on? Like I said, I am on vacation and I really don't want to find a doctor out here in the mountains!

Thanks!
Hello,

I have had the same issue with clicking. Did it ever go away? If it did, how long after? Did you do anything to make it go away? I have been with this issue for 10 Months.

Thanks
Ross

Hello,

Did it ever go away? I have the same situation for the last 10 Months. Please let me know.

Thanks

This thread was started over 8 years ago. It has been here a loooong time. Read it. With almost nothing specific to go on, there are too many possibilities. If you must get a referral to see a specialist, get an appointment with your PCP and ask for a referral to a local ENT.

I'm actually seeing the dentist tomorrow for lower back left jaw pain...never had it before. Jaw rarely clicks...wonder if TMJ? A few wax build up ear issues too...we shall see.

Hi everyone:

So I'm updating this YEARS LATER after my original post because I finally saw an ENT!

Backstory for context: I am having fluttering in my ear when clicking my computer mouse; if I press the mouse button too much, it causes it to flutter like crazy. This has only ever been in my right ear.

ENT told me that it's something called stapedial myoclonus and there isn't a lot that can be done about it. From what I've seen, surgery is an option, but it has the potential to damage facial nerves. Botox is also being used by some Drs to calm the muscle down: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/20800344/, but obviously this is just a study.

Hope this helps someone else out! Sorry that it's not "good" news, but I felt a little better knowing I wasn't going crazy!!
