I was just reading that this product works well for hot flashes, anyone try it? I'm on a lot of meds for chronic Lyme and Fibromyalgia so I really don't want anymore drugs. In fact I think some of my meds cause sweats but for the last year I think I started getting hot flashes. One minutes I'm covered in sweat and then the next I'm freezing, It's driving me crazy. Not sure it's safe for me to take the Soy Isoflavones but if others say it works I'm going to ask my dr if I can take it w/ other meds.

See here.

Soy for Hot Flashes on MedicineNet.com

The results of scientific studies with soy are mixed, but some individuals do see significant improvement with soy.

Some other non-pharmacologic things you can do:

Dress in layers, so you can add or remove clothing as needed. Keep the environment cool.

Drink a cold drink if you feel a hot flash coming on.

Learn which foods and beverages might trigger a hot flash. Common ones are spicy foods, caffeine, and alcohol.

Do not smoke.

For most women, hot flashes go away after a while, average being for about five years.

Hormone therapy is still an option for women with severe symptoms. The recommendation is to use the lowest effective dose and to try to use it for the shortest possible time. Other medications that do not contain estrogen can help, including certain antidepressants, the anti-seizure drug gabapentin, and a medication for high blood pressure, clonidine.

It helped me. I just had a serving of soy every day, like a soy burger, or soy nut butter. In fact I still do, although I haven't had regular hot flashes in several years. If I run out and don't replace it for a few days, I'll wake up with a hot flash at night.

Tried it, but it did not help me...my symptoms were severe and unbearable, so used hormonal therapy for 5 yrs or so...

Use whatever works!

I tried it, too, for hot flashes (menopausal), and it only upset my GI tract! Did nothing for the hot flashes!

It is very easy to OD on this or any soy related products. I suggest sage and wild yam. Motherwort is a good herb for flashes, too. I have the best results with a cold sage tea or even the tincture.

I got no help from it, but used the herb black cohash. Its traditionally been used for this and works well. One other thing I discovered is that the other main traditional use is for joint pain, and for that I've found it does wonders and still use it. You can buy the 'mixes' or just the herb for a lot less. It is a plant based estrogen like soy.

I've tried Black Cohash and it made me dizzy and sick but thanks for the idea.
