Well, I have a very embarrassing post to make. I fought with the thought of posting for a few hours now, as the details are very sensitive, and I have decided it would be best because I really need all the advice I can get on what my options are.

Long story short I went to a Proctologist today and was diagnosed with several warts inside my rectum. He said most of them can be removed with a laser, but one wart (that he also stated looked pre-cancerous) would have to be removed through surgery.

The thought of something cancerous being inside my rectum has me mortified. My mother's father died of colon cancer, so I am already at risk, and now I have these warts amplifying my risk.

I of course signed up for the next possible surgery time (either Wednesday or Friday they can get me in). My problem.......I have ZERO means by which of paying for this procedure. I literally have 300 dollars to my name and a car that I don't even think would pay for the procedure if I sold it (which isn't an option, as I might be living in my car soon). I have no health insurance and I have been out of work for almost a year now.

The secretary today could only quote me the price for the doctors fees, which come out to slightly over a thousand dollars and said the hospital fees would probably be well over a thousand as well, but she couldn't say for sure.

I thought "Whatever. I have something cancerous inside my body and I want it out NOW! I'll worry about paying it later". But the secretary said the hospital they perform the procedure at won't take me as a patient unless I pay a portion upfront because I don't have insurance! She doesn't know what the portion is. 10%, 50%, 80%??? I have no clue, but I highly doubt my 300 dollars for food is enough to cover it. The hospital should be calling me tomorrow to give me more details.

I currently live in Tampa, Fl. I'm only 24 and I am NOT going to die of a very preventable cancer because I can't pay to prevent it. Does anyone know what my options are or any charities that I can apply to for help? If I go to an ER do they have to treat me regardless of ability to pay? Or should I just wait it out until I find employment (that is, assuming I find employment that provides insurance in this economy)?

Note: I am not a troll. I post on this website very regularly in fact and I just didn't want to use my primary screen name because of the embarrassing nature of my condition.

No neede for embrassment. There all all types of pre-cancerous growths . Good thing you were checked tho. As to how to pay perhaps talk to the specialist who will do the surgery. Its ptrer-cancerous which means it may or may not become cancerous over time.

I will contact them tomorrow morning for sure. Right after the hospital contacts me and gives more details on the cost of the operation.

I don't even speak to my father, and my mother has so many other issues going on in her life at the moment. She wouldn't have the financial means to help me anyway. I would rather spare her the stress of the whole issue.

That is my one string of hope I'm holding onto at the moment. Since it is only pre-cancerous I can probably hold off on the surgery for a while until I acquire some form of health insurance.

I told the doctor that I wouldn't be able to pay his fees and he said that he will not bill me until after the procedure is done, so at least my health will be good and that I can go on a payment plan after. The one thousand dollar doctor bill is the discounted rate his secretary quoted me if I am not mistaken.

I agree 100% , i was in a similar situation several yrs ago, out of work, no savings , and needing skin surgery on my face , DR. suggested county assistance , I check them out and found that I qualified, income wise. The end results were that $4,200.00 in medical cost were taken care of and temp. medical insurance for a year. It's worth the time to fill out the form and nothing to be embarrist about.

You need to have the surgery so if the doctor and hospital will let you do it without a prepayment, just go ahead and do it. You can then enter into a payment agreement with them and make payments as you are able.

That's assuming that the county indigent health care program can't help you.

Please try not to be embarrassed, the rectum is just another part of the body that serves an important function

Also, please give us an update and let us know how things worked out okay? I'm praying for you
