After years (our first appt. with a Dr. for "unexplained weight loss" was in 2010), of trying to figure out what was up with my teenage daughter... we finally have a (tentative) answer!

I have posted before that she has been suffering from repeated infections, dizziness, tunnel vision, nausea, bowel issues, etc... I finally got tired of pediatricians and walk-in clinics (the former would try and look for basic "kid" problems and the former would do a pregnancy test and send up on our way) and called an internal medicines Dr. (they usually only see people over the age of 18, but she is very close to that and they were sympathetic to our ongoing issues). My DD and I sat down and made a list of symptoms and a time-line of her infections / surgery. The Dr. actually read the whole thing!

We have 3 appointments with specialists (GI to rule out other gastro issues), cardiologist (to make sure her heart is sound), and neurologist (to make sure her vision issues / dizziness aren't caused by something in her brain)... after these appointments rule out underlying problems... she will be diagnosed with P.O.T.S (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome).

While this isn't the "take this pill and you're cured" diagnosis that would have been simple - we are happy to finally find out what is wrong and what we can do.

As a footnote: please, please... if you know a teenage girl (90% of cases are females) or boy that is fatigued all the time, dizzy when they stand up, feels sick all the time, has chronic bowel / digestive problems... in short, do you know a teenager that won't eat and can't seem to get off the couch but is losing weight anyway? A teenager that is frustrated because they would rather be working or in school, but lacks the energy to do it? Go to Potsplace.com and see if their symptoms fit.

So happy for you both! Any answer is better than just questions, now you know - or will shortly know - how to deal with it.

Glad you found someone who actually listenes! I've done the same thing---wrote up a timeline, symptoms, etc, and they never bother to read it

Thank you for this post. I have a dear friend whose daughter has been having many of these symptoms, and she has been to several specialists, none of whom can figure out the problem. This may be something worth her investigating. She has lost 4 pants sizes in the past 6 months.
