Star Fruit/Carambola (kidney, health issues, expensive, effects)

Has anyone purchased this fruit and then found out that there are some health risks associated with it? I did some research for recipes and then found out that the fruit has some disturbing side effects when eaten in conjunction with certain health issues and/or medications. If anyone has tried this fruit and noticed any health problems, what were they?

So people with kidney issues should avoid star fruit?
I don't eat star fruit very often, but FWIW, whenever I have, I've been just fine.

A lot of times, the experts leave us believing something is harmful. I find it hard to believe the amount of starfruit consumed by an average American could do much damage. They are quite expensive and hard to find here. Not a daily item on the dinner table.
