I have a friend who is an archaeologist in Iraq and she was bitten several days ago by a death stalker. being extremely stubborn, she did nothing. last night her pulse was up to 160 and finally finally went to a medical center. problem is, she was starting to have drastic signs of respitory failure. she wrote out her will before being sedated....but we are now in the dark as to her condition..
does anybody know about the stages and if she has a fighting chance?? I know its crazy that she didnt go immediately, but what can you do?
There is actually an anti venom for it. Does she have access to Western" medical care ( as a lot of Iraqi hospitals will now be so short of supplies) , either from her dig colleagues ( I am an Archaeologist myself) or can anyone take her to the nearest US or British squadron as they should have plenty of it ? The Death Stalker is the most venomous scorpion on earth ( pulmonary edema is usually the cause of death) and though it is far more dangerous to kids, it still presents a huge risk. Your friend is in serious trouble. I hope she will be OK . Anyone bitten by a scorpion should ALWAYS assume they are venomous. I'm really sorry , all I can hope is that she got proper care and a course of anti-venom.
