Look at the subject of the thread. Flesh eating bacteria is a misnomer.

Aha, got it.

But then, a bit off topic, if we start with misnomers, then when will they stop calling *smart phones* a phone ??

Dang, it is more than a phone now !
That thing they call a smart phone, *happens* to be able to make a phone call, besides the umpteen other things it can do ...
My laptop can make phone calls, yet it is not called a smart phone.
My wife calls my laptop *your substitute brain* !

So, in the end, whatever it is called, it does not change what the item/thing really does !

Some "smart phones" are less than a phone, at least when it comes to making and receiving phone calls or text messages.

My wife's Android phone went through a fairly long phase where it would not allow her to talk when she picked up an incoming call (fixed by a reboot), which was extremely annoying, and my iPhone is far worse at processing SMS messages than my previous two phones (dumb phones from Samsung and Nokia). Subject lines are truncated, lines are wrapped together, and there is no multi-message deletion facility at all. Very bad for those of us who get automated alerts from time to time...
