For me it was 3 whole nights - so let's see:
say you wake up at 9am on day 1:
don't sleep on the night of day 1 (night 1)
24 hours is 9am on day 2,
don't sleep on night 2,
48 hours is 9am on day 3,
don't sleep on night 3,
72 hours is 9am on day 4,
Don't sleep until the night of day 4, which let's say is 84 hours.
Yes I've gone 84 hours without sleep...after a bout of anxiety and jetlag flying to America. I began to get a bit batty, had a panic attack, and went to hospital. Only after taking ativan was I able to relax and go to sleep. It was kind of scary.

^ you weakling, lol. . Okay actually in my case it was probably closer to 72 hours - but still, that's 3 full days and nights, nothing to really sneeze at.
Once woke up at 5AM on a Thursday (probably went to bed around 3am that night) and went to sleep at 5am on Sunday morning. Some activities I did while awake:
5am Thursday: wake up
6am Thursday: Drill practice
---breakfast, class, lunch, class---
3:30-6:30pm Thursday- Drill
---dinner, video games, TV, reading, still awake---
5am Friday: wake up, shave, etc.
6am-730am Friday: PT
---breakfast, class, errands, lunch, class, random BSing, still awake---
930am Saturday: two hour drive to a university for ROTC games
11am-~7pm Saturday: ROTC games (situps, pushups, run, flag football)
7pm-10pm Saturday-Football game
12am-5am Sunday: BS with dad for a few hours, drive back home, shower, shave, brush teeth, go to bed.
Was slamming Rock Star and Red Bull the entire time. The Red Bull truck pulling up to the barbecue after the flag football game and giving me tons of free samples (that I crammed into my backpack) did NOT help. Eventually, on the drive home, I had to pull off for a little bit because I started having wicked hallucinations. This was when 2-3 hours of sleep followed by ten hours of activity wasn't uncommon for me. Since I was more or less distracted the entire marathon of being awake, it was anywhere between 72 hours and 80 hours that I was awake. I would lose track of time a lot back then.
3 days when i was active duty army. I recall one time out in the field I was laying in the prone at a security halt and suddenly I was laying down in a walmart parking lot watching everyone walk by me into the store. Another time during an all night march I looked over at a field of flowers and I swear all the flowers smiled and waved at me. I saw a few guys trying to put quarters into trees trying to get a coke. Such was the norm in the military.
about 40 hours for me. Not a stretch because right now i am up over 20. Got up at 5 am. Worked 7 am to 8 pm and went to a movie at 10 pm. Turning in at 3 am as soon as i finish my ice cold stella and shot of crown royal. Long day!
Don't sleep until the night of day 4, which let's say is 84 hours.

I had a time back in the 90's when I was extremely stressed out, upset and worried sick about a life situation and I could almost swear I could not sleep for a week. I wasn't keeping track, but I was alarmed that day after day I had so much anxiety that it was impossible for me to get to sleep. I don't truly know how many hours it actually was that I went without sleep - - certainly a number of days. It's very bad for one's health.
Probably no more than is normal. Ever since I was very little I've been a hard sleeper. I once slept through a tornado; that's how hard I sleep. Now, I am an insomniac, but I've learned that if I stay up until I start yawning, I fall asleep quickly without the thoughts running through my head like they used to. Most of my life I lived in the Central time zone (Chicago, Iowa, etc.) and now live in the Eastern time zone and I believe this helps me fall asleep quicker. I'd guess less than 24 hrs at any time in my life.
