I keep reading that it is and I'm getting concerned b/c my fiance is 29 and goes to bed at like 9pm and wakes up at like 9am and I think it is too much sleep for someone his age and I am concerned about long-term health effects.

People who sleep too much die younger. This is said to be PROVEN.

Should I be concerned?

Is that every day, or only on the weekends? My husband likes to sleep 12 or 14 hours each night on the weekend and then only 5 or 6 each hours each night during the week. I just think of the weekend as his time to catch up on missed sleep.

He used to sleep 12 hours a day (when he was working the night shift) when our kids were young. I think he was sleeping longer then so he wouldn't have to do any kind of baby-related chores.

Sleeping a lot is also a sign of depression if done every day or night.

The only time that the body actually goes through the healing process is during sleep- sleep does not kill you- I preserves you- Now if you lay prone in your bed 20 hours a day- asleep or awake- your circulatory system goes out of wack- your organs shift- and that can be bad.

12 hours a night may be what his body requires to rest. Most of us do not get enough sleep. I require about 9 hours to feel fully rested. Anything less than 8 and I'm a wreck. My wife requires much less.

How is his overall health? Is he fatigued all the time? Or does his sleep leave him feeling refreshed and energetic through the day?

If he seems fine then why worry? If he sleeps that much and is still constantly tired, then perhaps he should get a check up and see if anything is out of whack.
