Why is that sad? At least I don't have to worry about having to get it done at some point in adulthood, which would be much more disturbing for me!

And so, some findings clash. No big surprise there. I still see much more actual reason to have it done than not.

Aside from a single survey taken in 1992, it seems to be the opinion of most researchers that circumcision can help prevent against HIV, though the difference is not comparable to the more important factor of practicing safe sex.

Fact or Fiction: Does circumcision help prevent HIV infection?: Scientific American

This link is in addition to two others I've posted here. There's some disagreement over whether it helps protect against more common STDs and penile cancer as well. But there are still benefits to circumcision that cannot be argued:

Circumcision prevents phimosis (the inability to retract the foreskin at an age when it should normally be retractable), paraphimosis (the painful inability to return the foreskin to its original location), and balanoposthitis (inflammation of the ***** and foreskin)

While these are rare conditions, a parent would have to hope their son doesn't have to deal with any of them in adulthood, because having to get circumcised as an adult may be far more difficult.
