If you think you've ever swam in a clean public pool... you are quite delusional. A public pool would be clean for about 15 minutes... after its original opening. Then the kids, or someone else, use it as their personal relief station.

Lakes are used as toilets by humans -and- all the fish living in them.

What surprises me, is that anyone would be surprised about the swimming pool thing. I mean - why do you think public pools have so much chlorine that there's practically a 5-inch haze of the fumes floating over them?

Well, since the area I live in doesnt HAVE a public pool, Ive never really thought about it.

Ive always swam in rivers and lakes. Most anything in there is probably cleaner than most people.

Even though the article sates that over half of the pools they tested had inappropriate chlorine levels, I imagine the still had enough to kill bacteria that can be found in virtually every swimming pool in the world.

You can get sick and die a very painful death from swimming in a pool. The same can be said for many other activities, such as golf:

Either accept the risk, or stay out of the pool (and golf course).

It is awful to hear, but it is the dang truth. I got a bad, very bad yeast infection when I was swimming in a public pool or maybe it was the hot tub. This had to happen at the renown hotel I stayed at a long time ago when I was on vacation.

Wow. I think I would rather be hit by a golf ball!
