Intersting article.

Many years ago - late 80, early 90 perhaps, I learned that a small percentage of white men were discovered to lack or have an extremely diminished number of the "docking mechanisms" in the biological makeup, which meant that the AIDS virus could enter their bodies but finding no place to "dock" it was unable to replicate.

At the time, based on a current study, it appeared that ten percent of white males had this biological oddity, whereas no African-Americans at that time were found to possess it.

I thought this had wonderful possibilities, but soon learned that medically there appeared to be no way use this abberation to prevent others from contracting HIV or curing it.

Wonderful to learn that it has now finally been able to benefit someone, and this may really spur research on its use directly for AIDS, and not just as a side benefit of other medical issues.

If you had done a simple google search and looked at the top of the results list, you would've seen that this isn't a Weekly World News hoax. It's been all over the news, it's been the top story on CNN, ABC News.

While this doesn't mean "they've found -the- cure.." it does mean they've reached an "aha" moment in the journey to finding one. The guy was cured because of a lucky break, they were looking for "A" and found "B," which happened to cure the guy's AIDs. So now they have to funnel some serious research down the line to discovering how they ended up with B, and how to do it again - since they didn't do that on purpose.

There is a treatment out there if you can get to a doctors office within 48 hours of being infected with the hiv virus. It will diminish your chances of actually contracting the hiv virus from 1 in 2 chances to 1 in 250,000. It is named trizavere and is VERY VERY expensive and aggressive.Extremely hard on the body as well.A 10 day course (which is recommended )will set you back about 8 to 10 thousand dollars. It is so strong that you will probably end up in the hospital a day or so after you start the medication.Diarhea like you've never ever known along with boder line kidney failure and possible seizures but, you will make it.Some 10 to 20 pounds lighter and back to work some 2 to 6 weeks later, you will be hiv negative. It is not readily available to the public ,why i don't know.Maybe because of the cost but is available to healthcare providers in case of a needle stick by a positive patient.

I'm not even sure you can even get HIV test results back within 48 hours. Some people live for years without even knowing they have it.

Read the last sentence again. A needle stick by a positive patient calls for desperate measures.

It's trizivir, not trizavere. The only information I've seen online about it is the package insert, and a few pharmacies selling it. The package insert specifies that it is -not- a cure for HIV, it is only a treatment. It isn't a preventative, and it doesn't protect against spreading HIV to other people.

It's also not 8-10 thousand dollars for a 10-day course. As of 11 years ago, it was selling for around $30/day (at 2 pills per day). According to a canadian online pharmacy, you would have to pay $1,399.00 for a 30-day supply (60 pills total) which is $46/day.
