I was wondering why would the Texas health dept call my home asking for me? I was out of town for the day and when i returned home had a message from them asking me to return their call. It didnt sound to urgent, but it got me thinking what must be going on that they called. They also knew my shortened name that people i know call me as opposed to my full name....Just curious/nervous?

Someone with a STD gave your name as a partner?

Or do you have pets that a neighbor complained about your yard/house being filthy?

It could be a scam. You should listen to the message again, see if they give a person's name for contact, or if they just say to call the department back.

Then, get the phone number for the health dept. from 411 or their official website, and call -that- phone number. If it's a legit call, whoever said to call them back, will know why they called you. If it's a scam, either that person won't exist there, or they will tell you they never called.

I get calls from the city Police "benevolent society" all the time - there exists no such thing in this area; it's just a scam.

them using my "shortened name" would be the very reason I wouldn't call them back.

If someone that you personally know had implicated you in any activity that could be associated with a public health issue, they would only know you under the name your acquaintance had called you by.

a couple of days have gone by and OP hasn't explained the call. Surely they have an answer to the question.
