I broke my fibula (far down - Ortho Doc said it was a good place to break it down that far as it's not weight-bearing) in March 2008. Everything healed as planned and 8 weeks later I was walking, albeit stiffly and tentatively.
Now, in Jan 2009, I think the fracture healed correctly 100%, but I still have 2 lingering problems, that I'm trying to determine if I need more medical help or if it will go away eventually:
1) The top of my foot is tender, and you can see where it gets dark under the skin, like blood pooling, it comes and goes, but is very tender.
2) After sitting for a while, the ankle gets very stiff, and this is persistent. Not sure if arthritis set in or ligaments are damaged that went undiagnosed, or if it will just take a long time to heal?
I can walk, hike, etc., with no real pain, but the back of my ankle "catches" or hurts sometimes when I push it a little too hard perhaps.
I'm a 47 yo male in pretty good shape overall, non-smoker, 5'10", 170#.
I am self-employed and can't really afford a cat scan, mri or whatever as my health insurance is very minimal, but I will go if I thought it would help and solve these lingering problems that don't go away.
