I don't have problems with my vision but need to schedule an eye exam to get my contact lens prescription renewed. Since I don't have separate coverage for vision, this will be out-of-pocket. Any recommendations? Can we just walk into optical store in department stores? What's affordable and good? Thanks for any pointers.
Walmart has good prices but the quality of the optometerists will vary a lot. I tried the Walmart nearest to my house recently and will never go there for an eye exam again.

I am surprised by this. I have used 2 different Walmart's eye doctors (ours is an independent doctor of optometry, and is not a Walmart employee) and been pleased with both. My mom had cataract surgery today and a lady there recommended her Walmart's eye doctor very highly.
Lenscrafters has pretty cheap exams and often has their own insurance options.
