I wasn't aware that this could be serious.

I'll have to schedule an appointment soon.
You weren't aware that having blackouts and being short of breath "very easily" could be serious? Of course it could be serious. What if you blacked out while you were crossing the street during rush hour? What happens if you black out while you're driving? What happens if you black out while opening the door to a hot oven and leaning down to get dinner out?

It could be any number of things - but fainting spells and shortness of breath are serious symptoms, even if the illness isn't a serious illness.

You should be seeing the doctor for the symptoms, *even if* they can't find anything wrong.

I guess I'm in denial. I'm 23. I've never had any type of breathing issues until last year and it has gotten progressively worse. I don't have health insurance so I guess that makes me not want to go. I don't drive.

I get out of breath when I'm walking tot he subway, walking in general and even exercising. I can't run, jump,or etc, without getting out of breath.

I'm not overweight.

Thank you for your response AnonChick.

Based on your age and symtoms there are many conditions that come to mind and I share some of the things I observed
as a hospital therapist yet remember most threaders are not MD's/DO's and my fellow threaders are right in suggesting
professional followup. Here is my list .

Congenital heart defect
Carotid artery occulsion
DVT/clot shower (periodic)
Hypotension
plaque shower (periodic)
pulmonary hypertention (w/post sleep apnea)
stress
hypoglycemia,erythrocytosis,anemia?
