Have you ever injured your knee in the past?
What about your neck?
Here is a great image to print; there are full body shots; front & back plus head - each part clicks bigger. Dermatomes
Next time it happens; mark where the dull ache starts; & try to draw where it goes- say the ache starts in C1; then it throbs; what happens next? Does it turn to headache? Does it affect your eye sight? Or does it go into your shoulders?
I usually write the symptoms on the image to see if there is a pattern. Do you notice it when the rain is coming?

I'm the kind of person who isn't satisfied with throwing a patch on something, I like to get to the root of it and take care of the problem at its core. Unfortunately, most of the time they have no clue what causes a lot of these skin conditions... they only know how to temporarily make it go away.

Pics of Lupus rash

Closest to my hubs rash - but his is more so the red dots; it doesn't get to the large patches like that. His are mostly on his upper back between his shoulder blades; face gets spotty; but mostly around the hair line & it does show up in his scalp & some times on his stomach

Find yourself a board certified dermatologist - in NJ; they do not have to be board certified; they could be a family physician that now calls themselves a dermatologist.

This will allow you to be prepared the next time you get the rash; they can do a culture on it so that you know if it is or isn't discoid lupus. You can also ask your family Dr if they do that type of biopsy/culture.

Thank you all so much for your responses... and I will print that sheet out and start paying closer attention to these aches to see if there's something to them. I'll also save up and look into a good dermatologist and allergist. Again, I really appreciate all of your responses... it's crazy that a forum of strangers has been more helpful than all the doctor's I've ever been to!
