I am in my mid-20s, and overall I SEEM like a healthy person. I don't have any glaring issues that anyone other than myself would notice. I am slightly overweight, but getting my weight down has been hard. I am extremely sensitive to wheat and sugar and I have to cut it out completely, or I blow up to a massive size within days. But other than that and low iron levels in my blood, a brief physical at the doctor's would yield pretty normal results.

But for the past few years, I've noticed certain things about my body that have me worried that something bad is brewing inside of me. It doesn't stop me from living a normal life now, but I'm afraid if I don't figure out what it is, one day it'll be too late to stop it. (Do I sound like a paranoid hypochondriac yet?).

Most of it is skin-related issues that pop up every few years, but always in different places. I never had facial acne problems growing up, but it started around high school when I started getting these tiny, tiny white bumps on my lips. They weren't really visible, but I could feel them and they would easily rub off with a washcloth. It made my lips very dry and painful. They would come and go in bursts for about a year and then they vanished.

Then in college, I started getting this mysterious, painful rash on my face. It started in a small spot on my forehead, usually it would grow at night. It basically looked like small, rough patches slightly darker than my skin. They would linger for a few days, and then start "weeping" before disappearing for a few days. It gradually expanded from my forehead to the entire upper half of my face. And when it decided to pop up, you could actually SEE the rash spreading. At its worst, it covered my eyelids and made them so stiff I couldnt open my eyes. I spent 6 months in and out of the dr's office and they never had a clue what it was. Finally they called it "dermatitis" and gave me prednisone (which really doesn't solve the problem). It finally disappeared nearly overnight after I went to an acupuncture appointment (I don't know if that was a coincidence).

Then I went another few years without skin issues until I started getting these weird bumps on my butt cheeks (sorry). Not cystic, just a red rash. It's not really painful, but it is chronic and I've tried just about everything to no avail. I also have severe skin issues on my scalp that won't disappear. It's not dandruff, it's more severe and keeping it under control is a huge hassle. I also recently got a mysterious welt on my shoulder and it has been there for the past 2 months, it won't disappear. Sometimes it dries out as if it's going to go away, and then the next day it'll itch and be red again.

I don't know, but I feel like all of these are related somehow. I don't have nor have I ever had any STDs, I've tried elimination diets, I keep sugar and gluten to a minimum, I don't use harsh chemicals in my products. I very rarely get sick, maybe once every 3 years and even then it's very brief. Day to day I FEEL fine, but these mysterious skin issues that pop up like this are really freaking me out. I'm afraid something more is going on. Doctors have been no help.

Does any of this sound familiar to anybody? Any suggestions for things I might want to look into?

Look into a spice called Turmeric; it's added to curry and other things and it seems to have many different advantages. You can get capsules in Walmart's pharmacy and ground spice in your grocery store's spice section. I used it when I had severe boils that sound somewhat like what you are experiencing. Try a search in this thread as we have discussed it's use here before. Sounds really simple, I know, but it did help me and other's have reported success with it too.

I will look into that, thank you. Did you ever find out the root cause of your skin issues or pin it down to any specific disease?

No, I did not. I got my first boil when I was pregnant with my last kid and my OB looked at it and didn't have anything to offer. I just figured it was female related and if a doctor wasn't concerned I wasn't going to worry about it. After some time it healed though it was very painful and very debilitating. I couldn't go to work for a week because I couldn't walk and it could not be covered. Good thing my employer was sympathetic and it was a high risk pregnancy so I received a lot of slack. After he was born I continued to get them; I have one now that's just sitting there but it doesn't bother me and I got out of the habit of taking the Turmeric since it isn't painful and they aren't popping. This "baby" will turn 16 next month!

You might just have a wonky immune system. If you don't ever really get sick, and these mysterious appearing/disappearing rashes are your only symptom, there's probably nothing to worry about. I've had something similar in the past - these mystery bumps on my knee that were there for a couple of years. I could shave them off and they wouldn't bleed, but they'd be right back there two days later. I thought they were warts but the no-bleeding thing really stumped me. They were tiny, smaller than the head of a pin, in a big cluster. They went away by themselves with no treatment at all, and never came back. I never found out what they were.

Now, I get hives, but I've "investigated" my habits and when those things show up, and the circumstances, and ruled out synthetic perfumes in detergents as the culprit, and discovered it's some kind of substance present on white plastic bags (the kind you put your groceries in at the supermarket).

I take an antihistimine in the morning (Zyrtec seems to work pretty well for me) and I'm good for the rest of the day.

Did any of it get worst after your roommate moved in? I just saw the post.. makes me wonder if it's something related to her not bathing or cleaning...

I don't come here much any more; but something led me back the other day & I just happened to see your post & I'm glad that I did. I hope that you're on the right path. I hope you're able to read at the group because you can have mild to severe symptoms. You just need the right Dr to dx you. Do not give up if you feel it's the answer because you will find a Dr that knows about it.

Have you considered that you may have allergies? Can you afford to go see a naturopath?

I don't know... possibly. Maybe these things pop up because of some kind of allergy and her uncleanliness triggered something? I really don't know.

I can't really afford to, but I would be willing to save up and come out of pocket to see a specialist. It makes sense that it could be some sort of allergic reaction. I do have generally sensitive skin, maybe I'm just sensitive on the whole.

Has anybody ever heard of an immune system being TOO strong, to the point that it turns on itself? I never get sick, people that know me think it's odd that I've only had maybe 2 short fevers in my life, and I get over colds in 2 days. Maybe my immune system just attacks anything and everything including my own skin?
