These settings have factors that make it easier for MRSA to be transmitted, including:
- Crowding
- Frequent skin-to-skin contact
- Compromised skin (i.e., cuts or abrasions)
- Contaminated items and surfaces
- Lack of cleanliness. Is MRSA Contagious?
Is MRSA contagious and How does MRSA spread?

Umm what? Are you planning on using the same pen/pencil she does? Same Keyboard? Same Phone?
Do you have open wounds or sores?
What do these multiple doctors say about your illness?

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)
The Pathogen
.........The CDC estimates there are more than 126,000 MRSA infections each year in U.S. hospitals, and more than 5,000 deaths. This highly pathogenic bacteria is a major threat to patients who are hospitalized with open wounds, weakened immune systems and those who rely on invasive devices such as catheters or breathing tubes for treament..........

If you really do mean that you won't write to her, I'd say you can expect even more people to call you silly.

IMHO:
If you avoid exchanging fluids;
avoid extended skin contact;
avoid hospitals [it is my understanding that hospitals are the major source of MRSA];
then your odds of getting MRSA are very low.
On the other hand anything you can do to boost your immune system would be good.
There is no reason to avoid communication with a MRSA carrier.

As far as I can tell from the original post, phonelady's friend does not have MRSA and has no direct contact with the person who does. There should be no reason to avoid her friend at all, even face to face.

I think they are worried about getting an infection from the letters they recieve from the infected person.
