cold medicine suggestions
Anyone have any good OTC cold medicine suggestions? I've been taking Tylenol Cold Daytime for five days now with little luck. I still have my symptoms (runny nose, sneezing, headache, sinus congestion) after taking it. Anyone have any luck with other daytime OTC cold medicines?
Thanks for your time.

If you have been taking it for five days with no relief, I suspect that you have developed a fall allergy instead of a cold. Take some Benedryl as directed and see if that helps. It might make you drousy, but if it helps, it's a good indication that it is an allergy.
There's an old saying about colds and medications. Take _______ and suffer for seven days, don't take anything and it will take a week to get better.

I know it probably won't help since you already have symptoms, but during the fall and winter months, I take zinc tablets to help with my immune system. I'm luck in that I rarely get sick, typically one cold per year. I wash my hands a lot and I'm a bit of a germaphobe.

I have used zinc too. I would also take vitamin c 1,000 mg every hour.

Some people don't like it, but I use the Alka Seltzer Cold formula during the day, Nyquil at night.

I've had really good results for this same situation with the following: Vit. C, zinc, and alternating 8 oz. of water and 8 oz. of cranberry juice (I use lite). Take the Vit. C and zinc every 3 - 4 hours, and drink the water and juice over and over for at least half a day. I have done this and been fine by the next morning!

You might look into this product called Cold Rescue (broken link). Although I haven't used that one, I recently used Sinus Rescue from the same company and my sinuses cleared right up.
Another option that goes beyond the issue of getting rid of your cold is using Hydrogen Peroxide, which should be thoroughy researched and clearly understood before starting on the program. I am presently using it with good results. For more info on H2O2, you can watch some videos on youtube.com

There have been alot of recent writeups on the dangers of OTC cough/cold meds, especially for those on prescription meds, etc. I think the safer ones just have guaefenesin, i.e. mucinex. I just use the zinc lozenges, chewables, etc. and plenty of fluids, Vit. C, try to go the natural route. Did have a pretty bad cold last month lasting 10 days, so had to take the cold medicine, ugh. So awful tasting! Hate to take meds, but it did help.
