I feel a cold coming on and was thinking of what all I need to do to lessen the impact. I was wondering what you do or take when you are about to come down with a cold or when you have one?

Nothing. I rest and drink plenty of water and use Vicks vapor-rub at night if I have a hard time breathing or if I'm coughing. I will take a Tylenol sometimes but that's about it.

I take Chlor-Trimeton 4 hour. Also, use Afrin nasal spray if my nose is congested. Hope you feel better!

Zicam is a zinc tablet that is supposed to lessen the symptoms of your cold. I have taken that in the past. I usually start drinking a ton of oj and make myself a pot of chicken soup. Lots of rest as well. Hope you feel better soon.

I swear by this - Airborne - to us, it is nothing short of a miracle. Whenever we feel something coming on, we will take 3 a day - then taper off to two and then 1. Just before a trip, we will take one just to ward off any possibility of coming down with something.

At this time, we have not had a cold or flu for 3 years and I ALWAYS came down with something once or twice a year.

AIRBORNE definately works! You just have to catch things at the right time...like immediately when you start to feel like you are 'coming down' with something....and keep it up avery few hours. It has saved me more than once.

Once you'r sick, I would go with Zicam

Airborne at the first sign

Start sucking on zinc cough drops

Then Mom's recipe for all colds and sore throats:

Mix sugar and lemon juice until it's a thick syrup
Add a shot of good whiskey
Add sugar until it's a syrup again

Drink, and swallow, slowly. It's coats your throat for the soreness and coats your head for the misery.

Non-drinkers just skip the whiskey.

It works on the theory that "If ya put enuf booze in it you won't care if you have a cold or not"

It does work tho.....but after drinking and swallowing jump into bed....cause you are goin OUT like a light.....

Take echinecea goldenseal in the tincture is the first thing I do.
Secondly, use a neti pot or if you don't have a neti pot, use your palm and do a sinus irrigation.
If you drink and have some brandy around, a couple of shots of that will lessen your cold symptoms also.
