Way back when, I had colitus. It was not diagnosed for two years due to an inept doctor, and when it was I was in the hospital for being extremely anemic. It was the progressive kind which never gets better, just worse. When the surgery was done, no tests were done as they were too risky.

Apparently a rare occurance, the disease had spread to the small intestine. The surgeon had only time to do a very quick revision when they discovered this. A few years later it was revised in place again. I was told to tell ANY doctor I saw that due to the lost of two feet of small intestine, they had to redo the whole thing as it would pull too much.

I had gall bladder surgery next, apparently a later complication from the ostomy. I form adhesions like they were going out of style and they spent half the surgical time removing them so they could do the surgery, which was far worse than they thought. I was advised against further surgery if at all possible.

Things went fine until I was put on meds for another condition and gained a bunch of weight, which stressed the stoma to the point that a couple of years ago, it tore. I told the doctor at the hospital, the one I saw in his office and the surgeon about teh warning, the doctor's name and the hospital and requested before they did surgery they look over my records. They didn't. It was revised in place, felt tight and pulled and just felt wrong from the start and tore in three month.

I can sort of manage it with a lot of changes and tight control of diet. It's not ideal and its slightly herniated, but I can't wrap myself around the idea of the doing it all over again and the pretty much guarenteed problem of adhesions. My dad had to have surgery just for them so I know where I get the problem.

I'm wondering if anyone has had to have the whole nine yards repeated and how bad it was the second time around. It currently spooks me to much to go back and talk about it (to a *different* doctor!).

I've lost weight, and now there is a bulge of skin which further complicates things. I'm not on the meds nor will I be taking them again so I don't anticipate it 'fill out' again.
