Would it be more or less pleasant to have your full mental faculties while your body deteriorates in this way, I wonder? Of course, it's hell on your family and caretakers, either way.

Extending lifespans is an economic and environmental disaster in the making.

I have thought about this a lot. My mother's family is a very healthy bunch. No heart problems, strokes or diabeties. Just the usual old age and slowed responses, etc. BUT....they also had serious dementia problems. They were happy as could be. I can't see that a person with a sound mind would have the same feeling about being in a nursing home, unable to be independent, even to be able to see well enough to read about the outside world. The dementia brings one blessing with it.....they don't know their Reality isn't the real thing.

I really think that if they had been of sound mind, and aware of the body's lack of proper response, they would have been very unhappy.

Nature' solutions are not pretty, famine, war, disease. It really would be wiser if we'd limit our numbers voluntarily.
