So I've heard about the positive correlation between obese people and occurrence of asthma. More specifically, I'm wondering about the correlation between weight and the severity of symptoms- does it get significantly worse as someone becomes severely overweight, and does losing weight significantly alleviate symptoms?

My friend's one of the worst asthmatics I've ever seen, and I'm wondering how much dropping some weight/getting more exercise would help him.

That's really got to be something he and his doctor figure out...the severity of asthma can vary so much between people, and some of the asthma meds can cause weight gain also. With the current popularity of weight loss surgery, it seems like if a signifigant weight loss would help your friend and they think he could survive the surgery, a doctor would have suggested it.
