Once an alcoholic, always an alcoholic, right? But does it work the other way, If an alcoholic, then always has been an alcoholic? Meaning, some kids in third grade are alcoholics even though they won't have their first beer for ten years or so.

they could have been developing character disorders or learning co dependency which can drive them to becoming alcoholics later on

There are SO many factors involved in alcoholism...

One being a predisposition to alcohol addiction...ie family members in the past were alcoholics... or possibly an intolerance for alcohol for certain groups, such as American Indians. Then there is supposedly an "addictive-prone personality" that some state might be involved...

Of course, the decision to BEGIN drinking alcohol is
crucial. My grandfather never touched a drop-his brother had been an alcoholic, so grandfather stated while he might enjoy a drink, he would never do so, as he would be tempting fate...

Does that mean yes or does it mean no? Was today's alcoholic an alcoholic when he was six months old?

I have a friend from high school who is now a very bad alcoholic, she is killing herself.

I also have a very very old picture of her and I at an innocent pajama party, probably around 14, and she is holding a glass up...it had coke in it, of course no booze, but she was the only one in the photo toasting the camera.

Well, if alcoholism is some sort of brain chemistry thing, then that brain chemistry probably exists from birth. This as opposed to a learned or environmental cause.

I have read that alcoholics are more likely to have personality disorders. I think this is called co-occurrence.
