I work in a dental office and we are hiring a new hygienist. One of the applicants we are considering is male. He is very professional with with excellent clinician skills. Has anyone ever had a male hygienist clean their teeth? Has the thought ever swayed you one way or the other? Most of the industry is female, as I am sure you are aware.
I have had male nurses, and they have never bothered me.
Let me know your thoughts and I'd also be curious of your gender.
Thanks.

I'm female and have never encountered a male hygienist. I've actually wondered why there are so few of them.
Wouldn't bother me one iota. Same with male nurses, by the way.
Nice demeanor, professional, competent...that's what counts.
I encountered a male hygienist once, and he was older too, probably around sixty. I was quite surprised but it didn't bother me at all. I was just surprised because every hygienist I'd encountered previously was female and looked like a catalog model. It seemed like that was a job requirement; the stereotypical cheerleader type, attractive, bubbly, female, usually blonde. In fact it was one of the reasons I decided against pursuing dental hygiene as a career choice!
I am female, by the way.
I'd love to see some deviation from that, personally.
I'm female and my hygienist is a man. He's youngish and people ask for him. He does a better job of cleaning my teeth than the women did, somehow. I think of it as being more technically skilled -- or something. Anyway, I choose the person who does the best job and in this case it's a man.
