I've had sinus pain/pressure for years, and have taken pseudaphed and mucinex to treat the pain and pressure.

Tonight I had a doctor tell me the mucinex might be actually increasing the sinus pain! Mucinex works by drawing water into the mucus to thin it out. However, if your sinuses don't drain well, the increased volume with no where to drain could actually be a cause of increased pain & pressure! She said Mucinex is actually better for chest congestion than sinus congestion.

Which mucinex are you taking? The green or the red? Red is for sinus and it's works quite well.

If the only active ingredient is guaifenesin (spelling?!!) then it is an expectorant and can exacerbate sinus problems.

I only use that if I'm sick and I have a non productive cough, it works GREAT for that.

Exactly!

I thought it would help thin the mucus, but it also expands it into samll sinus cavities.

Members Mark is a pvt label name used for several types of meds at Sam's Club. Are you sure you got the right one.
Here is the website telling you what's in one of the products Members Mark ALLERGY and you need to see if you have the right one. I'd check with your ENT or allergist and let them know what pill you have and it's ingredients are and if that's the one they want you to take.
MEMBERS MARK ALLERGY (ACETAMINOPHEN, CHLORPHENIRAMINE MALEATE, PHENYLEPHRINE HCL) TABLET [SAM'S WEST INC]

I'm was taking Mucinex D for a terrible sinus infection that I've had for a month now but it didn't seem to help at all so I stopped taking it after a few days after realizing that it could be making my already bad headaches even worse. I'm not sure it is making my sinuses worse but it sure isn't helping at all.
