I expect it would be easier for men (or anyone) with very short hair. I will use shampoo maybe every couple of days. But during the summer I find myself showering maybe twice a day. I keep my hair buzzed very short and use a scalp massager/brush that gets my hair clean with or without shampoo.
I sometimes don't use soap but I think I probably get cleaner than a lot of people who do use it. The main thing is the short hair.
I'd appreciate any comments or other ideas regarding this. Thanks.
I am referring to not using soap on the body at all, not just the hair. Yes, I started mainly after getting my hair cut short, but I realized that the principal could work for showering in general.
As far as oily skin, a rag will take care of that if necessary.
I'm curious why you shower without soap or shampoo? And how you think you "probably get cleaner than a lot of people who do use it."?
I'm a woman with medium-length hair and there may be a gender difference...I like nice-smelling soaps and shampoos and can't imagine I'd feel clean without some lathering.
On the occasion I take two showers in a day I don't use shampoo & conditioner every time.
My husband has very short hair but I think he uses more shampoo and bodywash than I do. If he goes a couple of days without using shampoo, his hair leaves greasy marks on the pillowcase.
If you can really get clean without soap, you must not have oily skin or live somewhere humid.
I just consider it proper washing and hygiene. Soap is usesless without that. People might as well just put perfume on.
If someone were concerned that they were not getting clean without perfumed soap, I would question their hygiene.
And don't even get me started on antibacterial soap/hand cleaners. They are a pure scam.
Well I agree that hygiene is more than simply a daily shower.
I didn't say anything about "not getting clean without perfumed soap", I just said I liked nice-smelling soaps and shampoos. I'm fully aware that the smell has nothing to do with the end result of being clean!
As an aside, I may be female but I am a painting contractor by trade. I'm not sitting in an air-conditioned building at work. At day's end I am often pretty grimy, sweaty and usually have paint/stain/solvent residue on myself. I think I would have to do a heck of a lot of soapless scrubbing in the shower in order to feel really clean.
I do agree with you on "antibacterial" products; I think they are stupid.
