I'll sleep 8-9 hours through the night fine for a few weeks and then I'll sleep maybe 2-3 hours a night for a few weeks. Anyone else have these episodes?? It's highly annoying

Yep. I hate to tell you, but it's hormonal. You are likely peri-menopausal himan!
I don't think anyone can say it is hormonal, without knowing a little more about the poster. I don't have that problem but similar. I sleep like a baby for 3 or 4 nights in a row, maybe 10 hours, getting up once or twice to use the bathroom. Then I will go the same number of nights rolling and tossing all night, feeling like I only slept about 4 hours, but I think I usually sleep a little longer than that. The biggest problem on those nights, it seems I am rarely in a sound sleep.
Oh gosh, me, too--I have this. Some nights I sleep like a baby..other nights I feel anxious, restless, cannot sleep for love or money.
It's quite puzzling...I've tried eating/not eating certain things, drinking or not drinking certain things, have tried just about natural and OTC sleep aid--some work for a while, then not...
I'm beginning to think I'm affected by the cycles of the moon...am I turning into a werewolf?

Same here! ^^^ I guess it's a common problem from reading these posts here.....
Yes!! Am in my mid-fifties and am in fine shape BUT my sleeping is erratic. Some nights (especially the cooler ones) I sleep straight through. Some nights I am awake at 0100, then awake again at 0300 and then awake again at 0500. Can't figure it our except maybe as I age my body needs less sleep. Usually when I sleep more at night are the times I work harder during the day.
I have to agree with the perimenopause possibility LOL...I am there myself! I think I've gone a step further, though...into full blown insomnia. I spent the better part of a year JUST NOT SLEEPING. UGH. I have a few tips that were shared with me - maybe they can help you too:
1. Use your bedroom for only sleeping and sex. No TV!
2. Drink no caffeine or alcoholic beverages before bedtime. (And skipping that nightly glass of wine was HARD for me!)
3. Get a white noise machine.
4. Try meditation at bedtime (even try a guided meditation for sleep)
5. Take a warm shower or bath, and try some warm milk or herbal tea.
I do all of these things as part of a nightly ritual. I also take an herbal supplement that works like a charm. You can get that one at Moderator cut: Too new to make recommendations if you are interested. I can't take RX drugs due to a thyroid condition, so I spent a lot of time researching natural alternatives that are safe for people with other medical conditions. This one really fit the bill. I wish you luck!
