Men do not get infections of this nature easily, and are generally caused by very "nasty" germs, so if you do not want to end up sterile, or worse, TAKE THE ANTIBIOTICS, and be sure you finish the entire prescription AND keep the follow-up appointment. DO NOT fool around with this - understand! If you can't afford the meds, Wal-Mart has a $4 prescription program that covers the drug your doc probably gave you. TAKE THE MEDS!

I agree;
This is not to be taken lightly; take the full course of antibiotics, curious as to what Rx you were given; Flagyl, Macrodantin; Sulfa Family?? Well please do not drink any beer or ETOH of any kind with this medicine , because you can have a disulfram reaction, you'll know it if you've had one so, please behave yourself no alcohol;
Happy thanksgiving

Okay good; then There's no need to do anything but drink a lot of water (distilled,) it's pretty cheap. Finished the meds, even though you should have already begun to have a funny metallic taste in your mouth, it is nothing to be overly concerned about, it's normal with this family of antibiotics; Stop worrying about your kidneys for now, and let's do one thing at a time. If the Dr.feel that something else needs to be looked at, he will after you finish the antibiotics. This sounds like this is his protocol. He is ruling out UTI first (Urinary tract infection) aka. Cystitis; when you go for your follow up, if the urine analysis(assuming that he's giving you one) comes up fine and all of the test values are within normal range. You're good to go. If not then he'll go to the next step and refer you to a Specialist a Urologist (bladder, prostrate dr.) or a Nephrologogist(kidney doc). You can also have blood caused by a stricture in your urethra ( where your urine comes out) sometimes it smaller than normal and it can cause bleeding, a simple procedure can be done to fix this. So please don't worry, I don't feel from what you said it's that serious.
You posted on antibiotics and threw me for a "curve" for a moment. I don't know how many health care practitioners we have reading this forum; that will give you advice. But the ones that are straightforward and suggest that you go see a doctor, are more than likely in the healthcare field or retired from, so listen to them; Like eddiek; and a couple others ; we care about you. but this is more serious than a mere case of acne or a bruise. Feel free to post your concerns for support, but always follow the doctor's instructions.
Plenty water!!! Please..this antibiotic requires a lot of water at least 2L a day. God Bless You

Please make sure you take the exact prescribed amount of antibiotics. They only work when you take them consistently. Don't skip a dose even if you're feeling better. Take the entire round of your prescription at the prescribed times.
