I honestly feel ready for a tubal ligation sometime in the near future and would do it without hesitation if given the chance to; wanted to for a long while. However, I'm not sure if I would still be too young for that operation. I'm a 26 year-old woman (turning 27 by April) who is 100% sure of not ever wanting kids. I've known this since I was 13 years old and my ambitions include others things; kids aren't involve there. I would like to travel only someday, have a life partner and finish my major but nothing to do with kids.

Overall, I will not be changing my mind. I have no desires nor urges towards motherhood. If I proceed to that operation one day and I were dating, would I need to inform the guy soon about it?

That would be an interesting 1st date conversation.

I was 28 when I had mine. It was a fairly new procedure back then. My doctor briefly tried to talk me into waiting since I was so young, but I told him if he didn't do it, I would find a doctor who would. So he relented.

No regrets. None!

Well maybe not on the 1st date but it would eventually have to be brought up. I assume most would be alright with it. It's easier to find men that don't want kids than vice-versa.

Unless an IUD or implantable birth control doesn't work for you, you might want to wait a while. The younger you are when it's done, the greater the chance that your body could regrow the tubes.

Also, a lot of women have problems with their periods after they get their tubes tied. Google post-tubal ligation syndrome to read some of it. A lot of doctors say it's a myth or women's imagination, but personally my periods have been really uncomfortable since I had my tubes tied.

As sure as some people seem to be, I do have one friend that was adamant about it, was even a teacher who was around kids enough so that she felt reinforced in her belief.
I wasn't in touch with her later so don't know why she changed her mind but met up with her after the birth of the first of her two kids and she was deliriously happy being a mother.
Putting this out there just to show that it does happen and maybe something less permanent is a better choice.

You would have a very hard time finding someone to do the operation. I already have 2 kids and I'm 29 and I've been refused. You could always try consultations.

I had mine tied when I was 20. No problems socially regarding that. Dating was still normal, I just didn't want kids - it's no different from that at all and discussed it accordingly when the subject arose.

I had my son last year. I am 34, but my doctor refused to tie my tubes because I would only have had one child. He said I would need to have another one before he would do it, which would defeat the purpose of having it done.

Wow they sure are stubborn. I guess it's going to take a while for me to find a doctor that will do it. For some reason, they are more hesitant with us than with men not wanting kids.
