I have had migraine headaches for years and they have always been the same until recently. The last two migraines have resulted in a drastic drop in BP and an ambulance ride to the ER.
I had one in January where my BP was 90/40 and thready, two times in the ambulance paramedics couldn't find a pulse. I thought I was alert and talking to the man, but found out later I was unresponsive. When I got to ER they had to give dilauden because my pressure was so low.
Last week, I had another migraine and was in the doctors office. My pressure dropped to 60 /40 and I went to ER out the back door of the dr. office after passing out when I stood up to get the pain injection.
Has anyone else had these types of problems? Dr. seem baffled, but do not seem to be alarmed. I had a catscan, it was normal.
i believe there is a fairly well established connection between migraines and hypotension - with either being able to trigger the other. have you seen a specialist for your migraines, and if so have you discussed the issue with low blood pressure?
if not, that would be the recommended course of action - i wouldn't necessarily expect your family doctor to know a great deal about it.

Low BP can occur with certain types of migraines which interfere with blood supply to the brainstem which controls BP etc.
You don't say what other symptoms you had eg probs with vision, loss of balance , speech problems etc.
Do you take any regular meds?
I would def' get checked out by a neurologist, just to be on the safe side.
If you mean Dilaudid, that's a pain killer and would have though it was more likely to drop BP even further
My daughter just had the same occurrence the past few days, pulse in the low 40's to upper 30's (which they werent alarmed by because she is athletic) low blood pressure, extreme dizziness, and migraines...and also went to the ER.

I have the same problem and when I am having a migraine my blood pressure will drop. My blood pressure can range anywhere from 80/60 to 120/80 and I can usually tell the doctor what my blood pressure is when I go in, before they check it depending on whether or not I have a migraine and also how bad of a migraine it is, if I have one. I have the same problem also with them having a hard time finding my pulse if my blood pressure is low and have had it at times where they had a hard time finding both my blood pressure and pulse. Two things that I have found can help with this problem are caffeine or something with salt, such as crackers. The reason that these can help is because they are both things that can raise your blood pressure.

I am currently in the hospital as I type this for aa
Migraine I've had for a month. My Bp dropped to 70/40 and finally got up to average of 95/65. The confusing part is I'm being given dhp for mirgraine which is suppose to cause you Bp to go up and yet mine is still low. I'm at such a lose here but glad I'm not the only one!
Okay first let me take the time to tell you how truly and wonderfully happy I am to have found this thread!! I thought I was the only one that connected and suffered with the blood pressure/migraine link. I'm a 36 year old mother of two and my migraines only started about 6 months after my daughters birth 3 years ago. During her pregnancy I spent the first 4 months of it completely bedridden due to pregnancy migraines and nausea.
My blood pressure runs very low naturally, usually 98/58...however I noticed the last couple migraines I got my blood pressure dropped to around 70/40. I'm not happy I/we've got this problem mind you. I'm just happy I found other people who suffer the same issue. It's really hellish. After having dealt with this for a couple years now I can safely say when one hits I literally want to drive my Jeep over my skull to release the pain/pressure I've got going. I end up with major visual disturbances, halo's and trails. Light dances for me, I can also see sound. It would actually be a really pretty thing to see if it weren't for the pain I'm in. Every sound and voice or sound has a different color, it's kinda trippy.
Now for the good news, I know everyone has different triggers however I found raising my blood pressure with a high salt meal actually helps dull it enough for the imitrex to work a little better. If your too nauseated to eat try some high salt broth made from the classic bullion cube. Now that bad news for this...is there's about a 25% chance raising your blood pressure could actually make it a bit worse. It doesn't happen that often but when it does you'll honestly wish for death by firing squad or something if your not already.
I really hope this information helps someone. I've been suffereing with this quite regularly (at least 8 times monthly) for a few months shy of 3 years now. I wouldn't wish this on anyone. If anyone has any other tips and tricks to ease this please let me know. It's been a very long and painful 3 years and truly if the rest of my life is going to be lived with the fear of my next migraine it's nice to know there are others out there having the same issues with blood pressure and migraines that I'm having.
I used to take Feverfew, an herbal extract (more effective than the pills). Put it in a little soda, water, juice - not milk as it is foul! Drops both the severity and frequency of migraines. Four double-blinded, peer reviewed studies published in The Lancet in the early 90s.
