Over the last two years, I have been getting boils. I have had 9 so far. They are painful and no fun. I had the last two lanced at the doctors office, I now have another one and will have to call the doctor again.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to keep from getting them? Perhaps there is something that I can take to help. Or any ideas on how to care for them.

Thanks for any ideas.

These are on my inner thigh. I have been to the doctors and they just want to lance them. I was just wondering if there is any alternative to this. Maybe somethng that I didn't kow about. I have never had a boil in my life until about two years ago. Now I can't get rid of them. I have wondered if there was something in my system causing them. Or a lack of soomething. It may be that I will have to contiue to lance them. I hope I don't get many more of them. It takes a while for them to heal and meses me up as as it is painful to walk.

I used to get them in my early 20's when I wore workout wear like danskins.

Make sure that you wear only cotton around the area of the boils. Anything other than cotton will not allow the area to breathe.

I feel for you, they can be so painful.

My youngest son started getting them when we got a new horse. As long as he stayed off the horse, he was fine... ride the horse, he'd get them..

I had a friend that use to get them under her arms and they were caused by anti-perspirant, soon as she quit using that, she quit getting them.

The point of mentioning those things is to point out it could be somethng you are exposing your skin to. Soaps, lotions, clothing... something your skin reacts to. Start making notes on what you are doing/using and see if you can find a common denominator.

I have only had one in my entire life and they are painful! Good luck on finding the cause.

When you say inner thigh, do you mean the bikini area? Are you shaving that area? That could be your source of the problem...you could be getting ingrown hairs that become infected and then turn in to full blown boils. ( I don't know if you are male or remale so forgive me if my advice is off)

Are you wearing dirty pants? (Maybe you work in construction or something?) Are you overweight so that your thighs rub together? You didn't give much information in your post, so it's hard to recommend anything. Seems to me your doctor would be the best source of information. Just remember to bathe often and wear clean clothes. You might try taking wiping the area with cotton soaked in alcohol.

It may just be me
But why is this doc just doing all of this lancing? and not testing you or at the least finding the root cause. It sounds like this continues to be very painful to say the least; It's time for some aggressive tx;(treatment).. There's a reason they keep coming up in the groin, with that being said; it's time to stop wondering and find out what's going on with you. If this area of practice is not your doctor's then "tell" him that you'd like a referral to a specialist Dermatologist or a good endocrinologist for further testing. are you drinking alcohol or have you ever consumed this excessively? just curious. Has he given you any antibiotics? If these are raised nodules full of pus they can sometimes be caused by" staph "bacteria. Here's a link do they resemble this?

Hope you get better soon
God Bless

Has your doctor prescribed antibiotics for you? When my dd was a toddler she got boils a few times and in addition to lancing the worst one she was prescribed an antibiotic. It's been years now and she hasn't had one. Also, she seemed to get them twice after I had her in the hospital visiting my parents. I think boils are caused by a staph bacteria and it's rampant in hospitals.
