I know someone that is in coma and on life support because of Appendicitis. This friend must have waited to long to go to the hospital for medical care.

Been told he is now on Kidney Dialysis.

Thanks.

Appendicitis can kill, and it can manifest very quickly. Basically you can go from "is this gas?" to "dead" within a matter of hours. It is one of those emergency medical conditions that, if it's bad enough and you can't get to a doctor, you'd better hope someone has a pocket knife if you want any chance to survive.

So sorry to hear about your friend, John.

It is, unfortunately, a very serious condition. Whether he recovers will depend in large measure how healthy he was before the appendicitis. If he was young and had no underlying problems, he may well pull through. If he is older and has something like diabetes or heart disease, it's less likely.

However, it is the individual that counts. I hope he beats it. Please keep us informed.

He's in his 40's and doesn't have any health conditions I know of. He must have waited to the very last minute to get medical care I think.

Maybe not. Not all appendicitis presents as the classic pain in the right lower side. Sometimes an unusual location of the appendix can make it difficult for even an experienced doc to make the diagnosis.

His age should be in his favor, though.

This is so true. My son at age 30 went to the doctor with severe stomach like pain, the doc siad it was just a bad case of gas. 12 hours later he was in the emergency hospital with a burst appendix. It also was infected and he had a 5 day stay in the hospital.

It is very serious and can certainly be life threatening. Your friend may developed septis. It is never good to wait long at all if you are in serious pain. I almost lost my life to waiting to go to the hospital with what turned out to be a bursted tubal pregnancy.
