I know it helps with the pain and inflammation, but lets face it, it is a steroid. Long term use is not a good thing.
You're right, I know, I'm tired of pain pills, I read about a moon shaped face, Thanks for reply

I had read some took it for a long time that's why I could not understand why I could not have it anymore. Did you have problem with tapering down to quit the drug? Thanks

In your case, it might be inflammation it is helping with. Ask if there is anything that you can try to help with that.
Or, you might ask him if he would agree to a daily (or every other day) very low dose such as wit-nit takes.
Oh...I just re-read that he says he will give you something else.
Maybe your post is just premature.

lol, yes the more I see of people the more I love my dog! No, no more Prednisone

Dr. said the Prednisone can affect heart & a lot of other things.

Rec'd rx for Fentanyl patch, I'm a bit worried about it, low dose, pharmacist said if I was tolerating Vicodin well I shouldn't have problem. I hope it doesn't knock me out, or make me have a weird or that heavy feeling in my head that makes you lie down, of course the Vicodin made me drowsy at first but that wore off. May still take Vicodin if needed. Dr. said to take the patch off if I get too woozy or dizzy, I just want to feel myself, I cannot believe it has come to this and all the time I've lost I'll never get back, Drs. too hesitant now to rx pain meds and in turn people with pain just suffer for a long time with limited doses.

When I handed in rx, they only had 1/2 of the patches, say they only get so many in and these type of drugs once a week, they called other pharmacy & they say they don't have them to fill complete rx. Now I need to go back to Dr. for another rx for these because you need a new rx for this. The DEA in our health care is not right, punish all for the few

I'm getting the pain shot in back in a few weeks, I didn't realize you go back and have another one a few weeks later.

Thanks for all the replys

H Mexico is to far away from me, thanks for reply

Lots of meds that are prescription here in the USA are OTC in Mexico. My friend buys only from "reputable pharmacies" (whatever that means) down there and gets all her meds there. I might be reluctant to get certain meds OTC in Mexico, but my friend brings me back Tramadol 50 mg and it works just as well as what I get in the prescription form here. And it costs about 1/10 of what it would cost here. Same for colchicine (gout medicine).

My rheumatologist wanted me to continue taking 1 mg pred every day for the rest of my life. He said there wouldnt be any long-term effects from that low a dosage and that it would continue to reduce my inflammation and, thus, reduce my pain.

I'm still taking Prednisone 10 mg for pain and internal spasms

The doctors all seem to have different opinions on taking this.

Rheumatologist says he has plenty of patients who have been on it for over 10 years.

another says it can kill you, tho I'm not dead yet

Endo Dr. said it will make the adrenal glands stop functioning and it will take a long time for them to start working again as you taper off this drug.

I do get swollen ankles and take a diuretic.

Any others taking this long term?
