Patients are charged by the visit - not by the minute. If cost was a concern, you could have asked how much the cost of the visit was when you made the appointment. If you don't pay it, it will go to collections and will make things worse for you.
If you have insurance, try filing a claim. My husband's insurance covered his dermie visits, and we had to pay only the $20 co-pay.
As a side note, my husband's visits were 5 - 10 minutes long and he didn't even see the doctor - he saw the physician's assistant. So perhaps that is a standard practice for dermatologists and patients who have minor problems.
So I had the details wrong but it still sounds like you were leading her toward the conclusion of some type of sun sensitivity.
But, all that is beside the point. It often happens that doctors don't get it right the first time ( and sometimes the 2nd and more) but it also often happens that some doctors just don't measure up to our expectations so the solution is not to return.
You have the same option now.
You can send an objection to the bill based on your complaint. Who knows.....maybe you'll get a discount....stranger things have happened and it will at least get your displeasure expressed to the one that displeased you, instead of here where it'll do little ....correction, where it'll do NO ...good
This.
OP, you think this is bad? I had heel and back lower leg pain, so after it didn't go away for a month or so I went to an orthopedic specialist. She looked twelve years old. She took one look, did no MRI, felt around a bit, and put me in a huge Robocop boot for a month. I went back a month later with no change at all - in fact, my pain was worse. She told me to wear the same boot for two more months. I did so, with no improvement. Went back and she told me to wear it for ANOTHER month, and sent me in for some PT. Now- I had a deductible and every visit I paid a copay of about $40, so by the end of six months I was out close to $1000 - and my leg was still jacked up.
Finally, my massage therapist/chiropractor who I had been going to for months because I was in so much pain from walking lopsided and lugging that boot around and favoring one leg, scheduled an MRI for me. I had a two inch lateral tear in my achilles tendon and it was literally hanging by a few strands of tendon. I switched doctors immediately and had surgery within days.
Needless to say, I didn't ask for or expect any money back from the first doctor - but I will never return to her. I also left negative reviews about her online. I felt that was all I could really do. Maybe not, but life goes on. I'm just glad I finally got the help I needed, from a different doctor.
You mean $100. The medication was $50. Hate to say this, but even a plumber has a minimum fee to look at your drain...the last call I paid for was $80.
Don't be surprised if you're 'fired' as a patient. More and more drs are taking a stand and ridding themselves of PITA patients.
He is firing her.
People....we have power...stop letting mediocre doctors, tired and too busy to be thorough
allow us to be in pain for no good reason...then pay their bills.
I'm not understanding this attitude that they are not like any other roofer or
mechanic?

Glad you brought this up; I was going to.
Does the plumber fix your drain? If not, do you pay him? Probably not. I wouldn't.
Of course doctors aren't Gods but there are highly educated. They should use their heads. Many don't.
All these stupid drug commercials telling us what to tell the doctor to prescribe are coming back to bite us. Sorry....that's not how I work. I tell the doctor how I feel and expect him to use the education he paid for. The last doctor visit I had consisted of an EKG, an X-ray, and the orders for three MRIs. I declined the MRIs. Turns out I had a light touch of the flu. I don't even want to know what the EKG, X-Ray and 3 MRIs would have cost out of pocket. A LOT! Then the doctor gave me a script for pain and his staff wrote the script for the wrong med. I don't know if it was the doctor's mistake or the nurse's who wrote the script. Thankfully, the pharmacist at Wal-Mart caught it, saying that particular drug doesn't come in that dosage.
well ive already written bad reviews on yelp.
I will try your letter suggestion however, great idea thanks!
If you've already given her a bad review on Yelp, that's probably going to hurt her practice
the most, as others will read of your dissatisfaction and may not choose her as their doctor.
I understand your anger over the situation. I've visited three Dermatologists that have been
really awful with their diagnosis/rx/etc. I paid their bills but was angry about doing it. Better than having
a collection agency chasing for non-payment.
A letter may help, but then again, it might get ignored as many Doctors and their offices seem to not care how they treat their patients, based on my own observations. And if they recognize your Yelp review, it could go either way. Good luck with whatever you do.
78 yr old mother of my chiro and my massage client hospitalized Fri night.
My chiro sees her MD in hall....Whassup?
MD: Dunno.
Chiro: Well. I'll tell u whassup it's her heart and circulation.
MD: No. Her heart's fine, the EKG was fine...doing more tests.
Sat morn: Dies of massive heart attack.
Me: Did u ever say, I told u so, to the MD?
Chiro: Why, he probably still doesn think it was her heart.

The OP wasn't in pain. The OP is the pain.
$100 for an office visit is fair..that's the going rate around here for uninsured people..and that's what the OP was charged. They weren't ripped off...they are trying to rip the doctor off.
And yes, drs are firing patients and it's about time. They give advice and pts don't follow it and then blame the dr...why?? Because it's so much easier to blame someone else than to take personal responsibility. It seems to be the way things are done these days..sad.
