Meat, dairy may be as detrimental to your health as smoking cigarettes, study says

Eating a diet heavy on meat and cheese may be as harmful to you as smoking a cigarette, researchers claim.

A new study, published in Cell Metabolism on March 4, shows that middle-aged people who eat a diet high in animal proteins from milk, meat and cheese are more likely to die of cancer than someone who eats a low-protein diet. The research also showed the people who ate lots of meat and dairy were more likely to die at an earlier age.

I call it fat fear, fat paranoia, or fat-fear mongering.

It's my understanding from my personal nutrition coach to build every meal on a good protein... that's about 25% of the meal, and it can include free range meat or grass fed cow or bison or wild caught cold water fish (that meat should only be about 3 to 3.5 oz) or quinoa or cage free eggs, etc. Then about 50% leafy greens and other low starch veggies, then about 12.5% quality fat, then about 12.5% other carbs, then about 12.5% fruit.

Eat this three meals per day and your blood sugar should stay in the green all day long... imo of course.

Oh, and don't smoke either. It smells nasty.

Eating a diet heavy on meat and cheese can be harmful to your health. This isn't news AT ALL. It also doesn't require any kind of sensationalist journalism or fancy sound-bites to learn.

Eating a diet heavy on Coca Cola can be harmful to your health too. As can eating a diet heavy on overprocessed artificially-flavored deep-fried tofu. As can eating a diet heavy on salt. As can eating a diet heavy on alcohol, or a diet heavy on .. hopefully you get the idea.

There's nothing wrong with eating *some* meat and *some* cheese, barring allergies. There is also nothing wrong with having an occasional Coke, or a pinch of salt in your salad, or a Friday night cocktail.

What's the point of eating such a low protein diet when the result is looking like your dead?

No thanks, I'll continue to eat meat, drink milk and eat cheese while working out six days a week and running an average of 45 miles a week.

What distresses me is the redundancy in "eat a diet". Reading such syntax is sure to diminish my Quality of Life by years...

Yes, too much animal is the 'fear'
Lean meat is ok, as far as I can see....I mean no crapola, grass fed, of course.

But, also animal fat, then our high processed carb diet...together is the problem....
from what I have read and seen on the PBS specials.

I will add I feel great after, I dunno, 7 months of no bread and pasta, white flour, etc.

I'm not getting what is wrong with saying...eat a diet of apples for a wk....syntax...would love to know.
