I would be pullng my hair out trying to understand vitamins role in hair regrowth, if I had enough hair. I have been researching ideas to stop my hair loss and get it to grow a little more, but I am curious what works for some of you.

I read on an article on LiveStrong, where they talk about vitamin B6 being effective in hair regrowth in several studies. They allude to the idea that B6 reduces the amount of DHT in the blood and therefore stops damage to hair follicles and can even help them reactivate. Here's where I get a touch confused.

I know I could go to a vitamin store and get just B6, but is that all I need. I was looking at this product on Amazon, Amazon.com: Vibrance Vitamins for Hair Growth, 60 Vegetarian Capsules (Pure Formula for Thicker, Longer, and More Vibrant Hair): Health & Personal Care, and it seems to indicate it is better to have a balance of vitamins and minerals to balance the effects and give the body all the building blocks necessary.

I am slowly going through their list of ingredients seeing what I can find online and so far it seems to make some sense. The first two I have checked are B vitamins and saw palmetto which all are mentioned on medical websites of being studied for hair loss treatment.

Do any of you use B vitamins supplements as part of your attempt to stop hair loss? Is it effective?

My doctor has suggested Rogaine, Propecia, or crewcuts. I dislike taking unnecessary medications, but do not mind taking dietary supplements. My chiropractor, a naturalist, suggested an entire bag full of herbal supplements. Several of those are ingredients in that Amazon product, so maybe it is on the right track. The doctor never mentioned vitamins as a possible culprit, but he rarely mentions anything simple unless it is diet and exercise.

Let me know you opinions on B vitamins.

My brother started getting bald patches. His doctor told him to start a vitamin regiment. He started taking 'Alive' vitamins. The patches have almost completely filled in after about a year.

Also, are you iron deficient? If so, iron supplements should help. I've been iron deficient for years and it caused my hair to shed excessively and become thinner than it used to be. Keeping a consistent iron and multi vitamin regiment has stopped my hair from shedding excessively.

I don't have much experience with B vitamins but I've heard they and biotin work well for hair growth.

Maybe, depending on your age, try progesterone. My mom, in her late 50's, started progesterone, and noticed her hair was not only growing, but it was growing in at her natural hair color vs. gray.

I was told to take Biotin, and I do and it seems to work well. I read the only living part of your hair is what is under the skin, so spending tons of money on special shampoos etc. isn't worth the money.

B vitamins are super important to overall health - do be sure you get enough of them.

I'm just not so sure they are going to help your hair loss issue though, sorry.

Protein, vitamin D and Omega 3 fatty acids will keep hair healthy, so maybe try protecting the hair you've got left better?

I got a groupon for 18 b12 shots.
Over 4 months I lost weight, stopped shedding hair, hair was shiny and stronger and grew fast, nails were awesome, complexion was peachy, and it worked like a diuretic for me.

Once I stopped so did All this^^^^^

If your hair loss is caused by a nutritional deficiency, correcting that will end the hair loss it causes.

You have to take other precautions as well but if you are having some drugs some specific drugs that can also be a cause of your hair fall. So try to avoid souch drugs, i.e. Testosterone , In men, baldness may be caused due to testosterone which is converted to DHT on reaching the scalp, some hair follicles may shrink in response to DHT exposure leading to baldness.
