On top of my husband having stage III CKD, my husband has been on pain pills for about 8 years now. He desperately wants to get off of the pills. He has severe arthritis and several broken bones. He will still have chronic pain but we don't know what they would give him to replace those pills. Our whole life revolves around, how many do you have left and can you wait to get them without going into withdrawal?
When can we go on vacation and have a full amount to take with us..This is just hell. I keep them under lock and key which is ok with him because he knows he is very weak when it comes to controlling his pain. Trust me when I say we have driven like a demon to get to the clinic in time. I just don't know what to do.And God forbid the pharmacy would be out of them so that makes me have to call ahead and make sure they are in stock. It goes on and on. Can anyone offer advice if they are in my shoes? Please help. My blood pressure has gone up dangerously high this past month. My Doc said it is all stress related.Help?

If he is not willing to get treatment there is nothing you can do other than decide what your bottom line is, in other words how much longer you will live this way.
Good luck.

He needs detox. He needs to go to a detox center and they will medically taper him off and give him drugs to ease his withdrawals. They will also evaluate his situation and prescribe replacement meds.
